Only 23% Favor Government Mortgage Help

As the federal program to combat foreclosures winds down, most Americans still think it’s better for the government not to help troubled homeowners.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 23% of Adults say if someone cannot afford to pay their increased mortgage payments, it’s better for the government to assist them in making those payments. A majority (62%), however, continue to believe that it’s better for the person to sell their home and move into a less expensive one. Another 14% are not sure.
