I consider myself to be a Social Conservative, Christian Republican. I consider Jesus Christ to be my personal Lord and Savior. I do not feel that the best way to try to influence public policy is to try to make everyone else believe exactly the same thing.
When long serving Iowa Senator and former Presidential Candidate Tom Harkin announced he would not seek another term, the seat became a prime pickup opportunity for Republicans. When Congressman Steve King, a Republican who frequently suffers from foot-in-mouth disease declared he wasn’t running, I actually joined those on the establishment side who breathed a sigh of relief. King tends to be more of a loudmouth than an effective Conservative/Limited Government advocate.
Enter David Young, former Chief of Staff for moderate Republican Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley.

I was sure he’d be a rather ho-hum candidate. An Establishment guy who, if he won, would be a fairly Milquetoast Senator but might have a prayer of actually beating the Democrat.
Boy, was I wrong!
At a public forum, Mr. Young pledged to try to convert Senator Chuck Schumer, a practicing Jew, to Christianity.
David Young promised that “as a Senator, he would invite New York Senator Chuck Schumer to lunch so that he could share the good news of Jesus Christ.”
If nominated, we can be reasonably sure the Democrats will make it their job to transform David Young from a mild mannered Chief-of-Staff to a popular Senator into medieval auto-da-fé Grand Inquisitor Torquemada.
Personally, I still hope David Fischer gets in the race.
