Are you curious how in a land that used to be friendly towards free markets we have ever-increasing government intervention into the economy and a general lack of understanding and appreciation for how the market works? I was. So I checked out the Georgia Performance Standards that mandate the curriculum for all Georgia public high schools. What I found was that in high school economics classes, teachers are required to teach that the free markets do not work and that government intervention into the market is necessary and good. Considering the state of affairs we find ourselves in today with declining economic liberty and prosperity, this shouldn’t have been shocking. Yet I did find it so considering that the Peach State so matter-of-factly teaches that capitalism – the only economic system ever devised and demonstrated to increase human prosperity – does not work.
