My mother doesn’t follow me down the rabbit hole. She’s an 84 year-old libertarian who calls Ron Paul “my sweetie” and defended Joe McCarthy always, but she says she’s just too tired at this point to think very hard. She won’t follow my logic about what’s wrong with the official account of the Boston Marathon Bombing and she doesn’t understand why I think Edward Snowden is “fake” or why I would even care to wonder. So when she called me, distraught about the terrible fate of Miriam Carey and insisted, “Someone has to speak for that woman!” I decided to tell what I have learned of Miriam’s story on the air and to outline the whole horrible tale in writing in one place, just for the record. I don’t have any firsthand information on the case and other bloggers have pointed out the curious facts that undermine the official narrative, but here I offer Miriam’s story in its entirety as a small testament to this apparently lovely woman who will definitely not get justice. . . .
Miriam Carey was the 34 year-old single mother who drove with her one year-old daughter, Erica, 270 miles from her home in Stamford, Connecticut, to the White House and claimed Obama was trying to communicate with her. The official story has Miriam “ramming a barricade” at the first White House checkpoint then speeding off to ram another barricade outside the Capitol; then, after being pursued by law enforcement and crashing near a guardhouse, Miriam was shot by Capitol Police and the Secret Service. 12 bullets penetrated her body, ending her life and disfiguring her to such an extent that her family did not identify her remains except from photos. Luckily, Baby Erica was not hit by gunfire, nor was anyone in law enforcement.
The problem with this version of events offered by authorities and faithfully reported by the mainstream media is that none of the details stand up to scrutiny.
A friend just asked me my view on the death penalty. In answer to her question and to impart to her how my thinking on this topic has changed over the years, I forwarded her this review I wrote some time ago of the documentary film, The Thin Blue Line. In addition, I recently addressed the police state on my show, if you’re interested in more on this theme.
Randall Dale Adams (December 17, 1948 – October 30, 2010) was wrongly convicted of murdering police officer Robert W. Wood, and was subsequently sentenced to death. He served more than 12 years in prison, at one point coming within 72 hours of being put to death. His death sentence was reduced through appeal to the United States Supreme Court, and eight years later he was released when evidence was uncovered to prove his innocence.
I always argued in favor of capital punishment because it is so obvious to me that in murdering someone the murderer forfeits his rights totally. I couldn’t stand the arguments that every life is equally valid and who are we to take a life and judge a person, blah blah blah. I’ll tell you who we are–we are innocent people who have but one life to live and if some out-of-control sociopath kills us it’s over forever but for him, he may serve ten or twenty years, maybe even his whole life, but he gets to live and we don’t–it’s just not fair.
Over time, however, I have come to distrust the State to such an extent that I now believe it is dangerous to entrust it even with this, one of its few arguably legitimate functions, so I must withdraw my support for capital punishment.
I will never in a million years protest outside a prison on the night of the execution of a confessed murderer–if you have him dead to rights I’ll be glad he’s gone. But murder is not the only capital crime in this country: treason, espionage and drug trafficking are capital offenses in some states. This is very different from putting people to death for violent attacks on innocent people. These crimes are what they call mala prohibita rather than mala in se–that is, like gambling and prostitution, they are crimes because the government prohibits them not because they are inherently wrong. Granted, espionage and treason are inherently wrong, but only if your government is inherently right. Once the government can kill people for crimes defined by the government and one of those crimes is opposing the government, well, you better hope you like your government–and that it likes you!
While talking about Assad’s chemical weapons yesterday, Fox News mistakenly showed footage I hadn’t seen on mainstream media before–it was footage released by the Syrian government that showed its soldiers finding a stash of chemical weapons and antidotes in a rebel hideout. The Fox footage below shows that the antidotes were made by a Qatari-German company, and of course the Qataris are supplying the rebels not the government. You can see the dirty containers on the chemicals, the cellophane covers tied on – definitely not government issue!
This is the podcast of the September 8, 2013, Monica Perez Show offering a libertarian perspective on the Administration’s push to attack Syria…What are the facts? What’s the big picture?
House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) expanded his investigation into the IRS targeting scandal by demanding the FEC turn over five years of communications with the IRS to his committee. Issa took the step after FEC vice chairman Don McGahn told CNN he’d seen an email from FEC attorney William Powers of the FEC’s Office of the General Counsel to embattled IRS official Lois Lerner. Lerner, a former FEC official, was asked by Powers for information over the status of the American Future Fund, even though FEC commissioners had not extended permission for Powers or any other FEC investigators to reach out to the IRS over American Future Fund’s tax exempt status.
After Powers reached out to Lerner, the American Future Fund received an IRS questionnaire. FEC Chairman Ellen Weintraub said she was unaware of any emails between Powers and Lerner:
“If there was any evidence or targeting based on ideology, that would be extremely serious, but I have not seen any evidence of that. I am not aware of requesting or receiving any confidential taxpayer information. I am not aware of any requests for anything that wasn’t publicly available.”
What happens if you’re a celebrity, liberal stalwart, and have a propensity for using homophobic language in online diatribes? You get an MSNBC deal. That’s what’s ahead for Alec Baldwin, according to the Huffington Post, which managed to take some time off of reporting on Justin Bieber’s micturition habits in order to cover Baldwin’s impending deal.
Where’s Angelo Carusone when you need him? The leader of Stop Beck, and Chief Toxic Little Queen, Carusone was last heard from when he hired on at Media Matters to lead their storm troopers in an effort to quash Fox News, because free speech only counts when liberals agree with the speech in question. It’s been three years, and while Carusone and friends continue their quixotic quest to take out Fox News, MSNBC went and hired Alec Baldwin. It’s okay for Alec Baldwin to use gay-bashing pejoratives, because he’s on the side of good and right and seeks to advance the liberal agenda.
The Bacon King Chronicles: Chris Christie uses $4.7 million in Sandy Relief funds to promote himself
The Bacon King, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, has stirred controversy yet again with his appearance in videos that promote New Jersey tourism. The videos, produced by a politically connected firm, MWW, put Christie and his family front and center. They also cost $2.2 million more than the bid submitted by runner-up firm Sigma Group. Sigma submitted a bid for $2.5 million to run the ad campaign for New Jersey’s tourism industry, but Sigma made no political contributions and its ad campaign did not call for Governor Christie to make an appearance.
The six member bid evaluation team, composed of Christie Administration officials, said the following of Sigma Group’s bid:
“[it] addressed the tasks and deliverables specified in the RFQ (request for quotation) … (and) could effectively meet the requirements of this RFQ.”
Yes,the Constitution is toilet paper, and you have only to look at the way government behaves to understand why this is the case. Today’s edition highlights a growing practice of state and local governments, civil asset forfeiture. Civil asset forfeiture enables the government to seize your property without charging or convicting you of any crime. That’s because you aren’t on trial; instead, your property is on trial.
In the United States, your property has no presumption of innocence, right to counsel, or any of the other myriad individual rights you have as an actual person. Civil asset forfeiture is a way of holding your property liable for the crime you are suspected of committing. Even though the police cannot convict you of any crime, they can still hold your property accountable for the crime they think you committed.
Much is being made in the news right now about a GOP that is pulling itself apart. The common representation of the struggle is that it is a battle between the far right and the far, far right, or as Mother Jones framed it in describing the Karl Rove PAC dedicated to supporting hand-picked Republicans in 2014 primary battles:
The Conservative Victory Fund’s creation threatens to stoke an already fiery internal battle over the future of the Republican Party. There are the Roves and Laws of the GOP, the pragmatic Beltway operators who backed Mitt Romney and who believe the party must tone down the demagoguery on immigration and social issues if they ever want to control Congress and the White House again. On the other side are the ideologues, the GOP’s conservative wing, the Koch-backed groups and tea partiers and Grover Norquist acolytes who believe the party’s future lies in veering hard to the right and doubling down on pure conservative ideals.
This analysis is self-contradictory on its face. Citing “Koch-backed groups and tea partiers and Grover Norquist acolytes” as the real source of the rift in the GOP demonstrates that there is only one issue that unites the grassroots rebellion within the Republican party and it’s not immigration or any social issue, it’s fiscal profligacy.
Charlie Dent is MY Congressman. It’s pretty well-known that I’m not his biggest fan. Personally he’s a nice guy but politically, he’s about as Conservative as, well, Chris Christie.
He is taking a firm stand for the Second Amendment and the anti-gun crowd is raking him over the coals for it. This particular piece of propaganda showed up on Facebook.
In response, Conservatives and Libertarians should give his office a call and congratulate him on a job well done on the 2nd Amendment issue.
His office number is (610) 770-3490
If you prefer, just use the contact form on his website.
I’m glad to see that even moderate GOP Congressmen (Dent’s Heritage Action scorecard grade is a dismal 37%) aren’t caving to the Soros funded left’s attempted gun grab.
Being suspected of a crime is not a reason to give up your Constitutionally guaranteed right to own a firearm. Heck, the Obama White House considers Tea Party members to be suspected terrorists.
